Bristol’s busy network of padel clubs will soon get the chance to battle for city bragging rights thanks to Golden Point Padel.

Padel4all Lockleaze, Rocket Padel, Surge Padel and We Are Padel have signed up to take part in a Bristol Padel Championship, with four rounds taking place across the city throughout 2024.

Each club will select four men and four women to take part in each round, with points awarded for first, second and third place. Whoever has most points over the four rounds will be crowned chamions of Bristol.

The first round is provisionally scheduled for late March (venue TBC) and the big finale will be at Rocket Padel before Christmas.

Organise George Modler, founder of Golden Point Padel, has set a maximum Playtomic rating of 4 for all players. He explained: “This will allow players who don’t usually get the chance to represent their clubs at this level a chance to get involved in a competition.

“We’re trying to include players who may not yet be at the standard required for iPadel or the UK PADEL County Championships, for example.”

The new cross-city competition will be intense, but friendly. George said: “We’re not looking to stoke a rivalry. There will be bragging rights, obviously, but the aim is to make the Bristol padel community stronger by bringing it together.”

Golden Point Padel is already building a reputation for great events. Founder George is in his third year of a business degree at the University of Bristol, but found the time between studies to organise the UK’s first university padel tournament last November. A second edition is set for 21 February.

On January 13, he invited renowned coaching duo Sandy and Tom Farquharson from the Padel School to Rocket Padel for a sell-out coaching clinic, tournament and exhibition, with the sell-out 48 participants enjoying ‘happy hour’ at the bar afterwards.
