The denizens of Plymouth will get the chance to play padel in the street this summer as Padel United UK erect a court in the city centre alongside a big screen during Wimbledon fortnight.
Padel United UK have partnered with the Plymouth City Centre Company to host free padel sessions for the public at The Piazza from 30 June to 13 July.
Padel United UK have operated four outdoor courts (three doubles courts and one singles) at Plymouth Marjon University for two and a half years and also run a club in nearby Torquay.

Throughout the two-week event, visitors will be able to take part in free family-friendly activities, watch live demonstrations by padel pros, and join in games led by Plymouth Marjon’s staff and students.
Padel United UK’s hope is that placing a temporary Instantpadel court in The Piaza adjacent to 200 deckchairs for fans watching Wimbledon on the high-definition big screen will increase locals’ curiosity and demand to play padel.
Padel United UK’s Operations Director, Miles Bromilow, told The Padel Paper: “It’s going to be a really exciting event – now we just need the weather to behave itself!

“We have eight sites across the UK and we’re hoping to open another four by the end of the year. We’ve seen slighty slower growth in Devon than elsewhere but it’s now starting to catch up.
“Our venues are ‘no frills’. We are among the cheapest venues in the country and that’s why we align so well with city centre projects like Plymouth, as we’re reaching out to all demographics and making the sport more affordable and accessible.”
On Wimbledon finals weekend (13–14 July), there will also be an international market on Plymouth’s New George Street, offering a selection of global cuisine, gifts and Wimbledon-themed treats.
