Christian Medina Murphy took nothing but positive vibes away from Olympia after he and Alberto Garcia Jimenez bowed out of London Premier Padel P1 on Wednesday night.
British no.1 Medina Murphy, the world no.173, and his long-time Spanish playing partner and world no.142 Garcia Jimenez
carried home hopes on their shoulders into the round of 32 after first-day exits by the other five GB wildcard players.
The duo were once again scheduled last on centre court, but due to an over-running schedule, they were bumped on to court two late in the day, which unfortunately meant they were hidden from view for those watching online or on TV.
Facing 10th-seeded Argentinians Juan Tello and Maximiliano Arce Simo, the task was always going to be tough, but they emerged with heads held high despite a 6-2, 6-2 scoreline.
“I feel good because I think we fought until the end and we were trying our best,” said Medina Murphy afterwards.
“They are an amazing pair, 10th in the world. Obviously they are better than us and we tried to get close to them on the court, but at the end they put their rhythm on the game. We performed well but we have to train a little bit more to have more chances.”
Medina Murphy and Garcia Jimenez won a FIP Bronze title in Alicante two weeks ago — their fourth title together on the world circuit.
Their glorious late-night victory over Agustin Gutierrez of Argentina and Santino Giuliani Lombardo of Italy at Olympia on Tuesday night then continued their positive momentum.
The GB no.1 leaves London with a smile and even deeper motivation to keep improving.
“There are a lot of things [to take]. First of all, I saw a lot of people here on the first days watching the games, supporting me and all the players and I think that is amazing news for UK padel.
“Our level when we won the first round, that is a really, really good performance. We’re really excited to be fighting against the best in the world. Let’s see what comes next!”
