Manchester’s hugely popular Club de Padel is set to relocate to make way for five huge skyscrapers in its Deansgate Square location.

Club de Padel was Manchester’s first outdoor padel club when it was opened by David Blake, James Wigglesworth, Matt McKinlay and Lucy Noone at its city centre site just over two years ago.

The four-court venue in the New Jackson Square development quickly proved to be a smash hit, spawning its own running club, regular events and activations and its own distinctive fashion brand in partnership with Manchester label UN:IK.

The club had more than 100,000 visitors in its first year alone. However, it was on a so-called ‘meanwhile’ site (underutilised spaces that are activated for an interim period before planned longer-term use or redevelopment begins) and was never meant to be permanent.

This was also the case with Game4Padel’s The Padel Yard in Wandsworth, Greater London, which is set to close to make way for residential and commercial development, but will reopen at a new location in nearby Vauxhall.

Like The Padel Yard, Club de Padel will relocate to another site, also in Manchester, with the precise location yet to be announced. In the meantime, the operator announced that all court bookings up to its closure on Wednesday 14 January will be free.

Club de Padel opened a second venue in Sheffield last year and have plans to open further locations in 2026 in addition to the new Manchester club.

Developer Renaker is now preparing to build five skyscrapers on the plot featuring 200 luxury apartments (the largest set to be 71 storeys high), to complete the next phase of the New Jackson neighbourhood.

Club de Padel’s co-founders said: “We’re grateful to Renaker for taking a chance on a big idea and supporting us as we launched our first, and Manchester’s first, padel club. We’re excited to move on to the next stage of our journey, with a new Manchester club and several more across the country to open this year.”

Andy Lofthouse, Chief Development Officer at Renaker, added: “We are very proud that the city’s first padel operation was launched within the New Jackson neighbourhood. Club De Padel has played a significant role in activating the area and have been a brilliant partner to work alongside. We wish them every success in their future projects.”
