Argentina will host the fourth edition of padel’s FIP Senior World Cup from 14-19 September this year with updates to the five age categories.

The Buenos Aires edition will mark the debut of the FIP Senior World Cup in South America, following previous editions in Estepona, Spain (2018), Las Vegas, USA (2022) and La Nucía, Spain (2024).

Hosts Argentina will defend the men’s world title won two years ago, while Spain will aim to retain the women’s title.

Great Britain’s women finished a highly creditable ninth out of 22 teams in the 2024 Seniors World Padel Championships while the men came 19th out of 24. The highlight was Dawn Foxhall and Jo Ward getting to the bronze medal match in the women’s 45+ pairs.

This year’s age categories have been updated to 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+ and 60+ (having been 35+ up to 55+ in La Nucía). The new range aligns with the structure of FIP Senior competitions with the new FIP Beyond format, which includes a category for players aged 18–39.

The field in Buenos Aires has been expanded to 32 national teams, an increase from the 16 teams that took part in the second edition in Las Vegas and the 24 teams in the third edition in La Nucía.

“We are pleased that the FIP Senior World Cup will be held for the first time in Argentina, a key country in the history and development of padel, capable of fully representing its identity, culture and passion,” said FIP President Luigi Carraro (pictured below).

“The Senior movement is of fundamental importance to us: today’s more experienced players, in addition to having been great champions, represent a living legacy of our sport, an essential link between present and future talent.

“We are confident that this will be a special edition, also thanks to the enthusiasm of a unique public that has contributed significantly to the global growth of padel.

“I would like to thank the APA and its president Santiago Brito for taking on, together with the FIP, the organisation of such an important event, as well as all the federations that submitted bids, demonstrating the growing interest and continuous international expansion of our sport.”

The President of the Asociación de Padel Argentino (APA), Santiago Brito, added: “Bringing a World Championship to Argentina reaffirms the APA’s commitment to the development and international projection of padel.

“This event represents a significant milestone and, on a personal level, it is an honour to continue a family legacy linked to the history of this sport. I thank FIP President Luigi Carraro for his trust, support and cooperation in enabling Argentina to host this Senior World Championship. Our country will have the honour of welcoming delegations from around the world and hosting a competition that promotes the growth and integration of padel at a global level.”
