Last weekend’s FIP Silver HOP London Padel Open in north London was hailed as the “largest and most competitive international padel event” ever hosted in Britain.

With more than 20 players from the world’s top 50 competing with the cream of the British game inside a sweltering The Padel Hub in Whetstone, the event was hailed by organisers as “a defining milestone.”

Top seeds dominated the women’s draw, with Spain’s Lorena Rufo Ortiz and Jessica Castelló López securing the title. In the men’s competition, second seeds Alejandro Arroyo and Javier Martínez, also from Spain, claimed the win.

In terms of British interest, GB no.2 Catherine Rose and her Portugese partner Constanca Gorito reached the quarter-finals where they lost out to the eventual champions.

Unfortunately the tournament’s poster girl, British no.1 Aimee Gibson, was still not fit enough following her severe calf tear to make her comeback. She hopes to return on 12 June.

In the women’s final, the top-seeded Spanish duo delivered a commanding performance against Spanish/Italian fourth seeds Amanda Lopez Moral and Carla Touly, securing the title with a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 win.

Rufo Ortiz and Castelló López, both ranked inside the world’s top 25, said: “We are proud to get the win in London. We put in so much work together on and off court to achieve results like this and it is great to have conquered the title here in the HOP London Open.”

The men’s final delivered an all‑Spanish showdown, as the second seeds went head‑to‑head with third seeds Pol Hernandez Alvarez and Guillermo Collado Losada. There, it was Arroyo and Martinez who claimed the title 6-4, 6-3.

Arroyo, ranked 21 in the FIP rankings, and his partner Javier Martinez said: “This has been very good practice for London P1 in August. Players are always very happy to be visiting new cities for Premier Padel events and London is a great landmark, to where players will come all full of energy to make a good result.”

Home Of Padel’s John Leach and Javi Serrats reflected on the tournament saying: “The success of the HOP London Padel Open 2026 marks a defining milestone for our organisation and for the growth or international padel in the UK, with a large number of British players competing against the best of the best.

“With the invaluable support of the LTA and FIP, we have delivered what stands today as the largest and most competitive international event ever hosted in the country. Bringing together more than 20 players from the world’s top 50 is a testament to the global relevance and ambition of this tournament.

“We are incredibly proud to have created a world-class platform that showcases elite talent, inspired the next generation, grows padel from the grassroots, and firmly positions London on the international padel calendar.”
