Jersey is gearing up for its biggest ever summer of padel which will bring hundreds of world-class and veteran players to the island.
For the first time, Jersey’s Island Padel club will host an LTA Padel Grade 1 Senior event and a FIP Silver tournament, in May and July respectively.
The Grade 1 event sponsored by Rathbones, taking place from 15-17 May, will showcase some of the best seniors in the sport across 40+, 50+, and 60+ categories.
There will be strong local interest, with a number of Jersey’s top players competing against elite visitors, roared on by a passionate local crowd.
Off the court, the event promises a vibrant and social atmosphere, with courtside food, a fully stocked bar, and entertainment throughout the weekend.
Scott Clayton, Co-Founder of Island Padel, said: “We’re incredibly excited to host another Grade 1 seniors event here in Jersey. It’s a fantastic opportunity not only to bring some of the UK’s best veteran players to the island, but also to generate valuable sports tourism during the shoulder months.
“Events like this have a real impact, supporting local businesses while giving our own players the chance to compete at a very high level on home soil.
“It’s also an important step in building momentum ahead of our FIP Silver event at the end of July, which we expect will bring hundreds of international world-class players and spectators to Jersey. It’s an exciting time for padel on the island.”
As a Grade 1 tournament, the event represents the highest standard of senior competition in the UK. Entries opened on 30 March.
Last year, Jersey hosted a seniors Grade 2 event and a FIP Bronze, so this year marks a step up on both counts, and a milestone for the island’s padel community.
