True Padel has revealed plans for the UK’s first rooftop padel club which will feature views across the North Sea.

The north-east operator is currently awaiting local authority approval on its plans for a seven-court facility on top of the Beacon Shopping Centre in North Shields.

The club would feature a cafe and bar area with seats next to a large south-facing window looking out over the city of Newcastle, the River Tyne and the ocean.

If approved, the club would form part of a large-scale redevelopment of the Beacon Centre and Bedford Street, the road on which it is situated.

True Padel currently operates 16 courts across the north-east region, which will soon become 20. Expansion is under way at their existing Sunderland site which will take it from seven to 11 courts.

Adam Carr, co-founder and Director at True Padel, told The Padel Paper: “Our ambition is to create what could be the UK’s first rooftop padel club, a totally unique playing experience with panoramic views across North Shields and the surrounding area.

“Nothing is confirmed just yet as we are still at the planning stage, but we’re hoping to hear back within the next few weeks.”
