The Roses Padel League began last weekend — a padel tournament which draws on the historic Wars of the Roses between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
The league sees 10 top clubs from Greater Manchester and Yorkshire face off home and away throughout the autumn, before the top two from each county meet at BigBox Padel Club in Huddersfield (pictured above) in December, prior to the final.
The clubs involved are: Pure Padel Manchester, Deuce Padel Rochdale, Padel Republic, Just Padel Bolton and Carbon Padel Club for Greater Manchester, and in Yorkshire, Optimum Padel, Club de Padel, BigBox Padel Club, Padel Bonito and Surge Harrogate.
The league format sees three doubles matches played during every fixture, with LTA rankings deciding the pairs order. They face pair one of their opposing club, and the same for pairs two and three. That means it’s possible for ties to finish 3-0, 2-1, 1-2 or 0-3, going towards each club’s league position.

Though there is only one division in 2026, a Roses Padel League representative tells The Padel Paper that there are plans for future seasons to feature multiple divisions, with promotion and relegation, and spread to other counties. But for now, they feel the founding counties are the perfect starting location.
The league representative explained: “We believe that Yorkshire and Greater Manchester are home to two of the largest padel communities in the North, and the players’ skill levels appear to be very evenly matched. We loved the idea of finding out which club in the area is the best.
“We also felt that recreating the ‘Battle of the Roses’ – with Lancashire and Manchester facing off against Yorkshire – added a special charm to the league.”
