Harbour Club Chelsea took home two of the three winners’ cheques at the iPadel Club League Finals in Derby last weekend.
The West London club claimed victory in the women’s and mixed competitions, toppling Tennis World Middlesbrough and Sundridge Park (Bromley) respectively. Roehampton Club were the victors in the men’s final over Game4Padel Huddersfield on a super tiebreak.
Harbour Club Chelsea’s win in the ladies’ tournament meant they had completed the double, having clinched the LTA National Club League Championship last year via another triumph over Middlesbrough in a deciding-set super tie-break 11-9.
Abi Tordoff, who played in both finals, attributed victory in the ladies’ tournament – which came without dropping a set – to the close bond forged by regular team training sessions.
The GB international said: “From the women’s point of view we are really pleased to add the iPadel Club League title to the LTA National Club League championship. Holding both at the same time is something that we are all really proud of.
“I’d also like to mention our second team who we beat in the semi-final. To then get the better of Middlesbrough in the final, having had such a tough final with them at the LTA finals, was special.
“We have a very strong bond as a group and a really good team spirit. Lisa [Phillips], Catherine [Rose] and Lila [Simpson] and I have put a lot of hard work into this and it’s great to get that reward.”
In the final, Tordoff and partner Lisa beat Libby Fletcher and Claire Smith 6-3, 6-2 at the top of the order with Rose and Simpson defeating former tennis aces Jocelyn Rae and Yasmin Clarke 6-2, 6-0.
In the mixed, Tordoff partnered Hugo Quarry while Simpson teamed up with Max Lutostanski to dispatch Sundridge Park – again without dropping a set.
All of which left the former Wimbledon player to dedicate the victory to captain Lutostanski: “Max is a vital part of our mixed team and captains us too. It is great to have paid him back for that and everything he does for the players at Harbour Club Chelsea.
“Max puts in so much hard work behind the scenes to make things run so smoothly for us and it is great that he is now an iPadel League winner too.”
