Rising star Aimee Gibson won her sixth trophy in a row at last weekend’s sun-kissed LTA Padel British Tour event at Guernsey Padel Club.

The left-hander’s amazing winning run includes all four LTA Grade One events this season – in Harrogate and Derby alongside British No.1 Tia Norton and in North Ayrshire and now Guernsey with Catherine Rose.

There are three more Grade One events to come this summer for Gibson to complete a clean sweep – at Stratford Padel Club (9-11 June), Rocks Lane Chiswick (21-23 July) and Island Padel, Jersey (9-10 September).

With six of UK’s top 10 men and five of the top 10 women travelling to Guernsey to compete for the £3,500 prize fund, the standard of padel was extremely high.

Aimee and Catherine defeated fellow British pair Helen Crook and former British tennis player Jo Ward 6-0, 6-1 in the women’s final.

Aimee said: “Here in Guernsey it is so nice, the courts are great and the draws are so busy. Some weeks you don’t get that many women entering so it’s nice to see lots of people playing.”

There was British success in the men’s final too, in which Francis Langan and Sam MacNeil defeated top seeds Chris Salisbury and Rafael Vega 7-5, 6-4.

Langan reflected: “I’m really pleased with how I played today, and it’s great to get the win, especially in front of such a big crowd – definitely one of the biggest we have seen at an LTA padel event. It’s been a great weekend in Guernsey – my first time on the island and I’ll be back for soon for sure.”

Sara Woolland, Guernsey Padel Club Tournament Director said: “It was wonderful to see the Guernsey Padel Club so buzzing over the Bank Holiday weekend with hundreds of spectators turning out to watch the best UK players taking on our own local members and players.

“We are already looking forward to welcoming many of them back soon, either for friendlies, coaching weekends or more LTA events.”
