Padel’s globalisation continues apace with news of rapid expansion in the Philippines – led by the trailblazing Alenna Dawn Magpantay.

Alenna is Chairwoman and Founder of the Philippines Padel Association, Founder of the Women’s Padel Association and CEO and Founder of Manila Padel Club, which opened its second venue in the Filipino capital city this week.

Not only is she driving padel’s growth – she is representing Philippines with distinction on the international stage too. Alongside long-time partner Maia Balce, Alena won the women’s consolation title at the recent FIP Rise Melbourne in which they were the only South-East Asian players (GB pair Catherine Rose and Hanna Maddock reached the semi-finals).

“Our hearts swelled with pride, knowing that every strike, every point, brought honor not just to us, but to the Philippines,” said Alenna in an Instagram post. The pair’s triumph was trumpeted by CNN Philippines who invited them into the studio for interviews.

Last year, the Philippines governing body held three national padel tournaments, appointed a head coach from overseas, had five players competing at a FIP tournament in Thailand and Alenna herself took part in the Fabrice Pastor Cup on the A1 Padel tour.

“Our commitment to elevating local talent and making an international impact is a testament to visionary leadership,” said the Philippines Padel Association.

Last weekend’s grand opening of a new three-court club in ArcoVia City (pictured above) in partnership with Megaworld Corporation developed the nation’s padel infrastructure still further.

As well as covered courts and a stylish clubhouse, the club features ‘The Playground by Decathlon’ — a state-of-the-art outdoor gym.

Alenna said of the opening: “This expansion reflects our dedication to growing the sport of padel and fostering a vibrant, active community.”
