WITH just six days to go until the inaugural Greenweez Paris Premier Padel Major being held at Stade Roland Garros, the totemic home of French tennis, the respected French Broadcaster CANAL + has joined the stable of major broadcasters providing coverage of the Premier Padel event to more than 60 global territories including France.

This is further proof of the attraction of Premier Padel to global media with the Italy Major, held at the historic Foro Italico in Rome in May, broadcast to 167 territories and exceeding the 156 regions that beamed back the inaugural event, the Ooredoo Qatar Major 2022 in March.

The apparently insatiable media appetite for coverage of padel since the launch of Premier Padel would appear to underline that the clever use of iconic tennis stadia as host venues for their tournaments has added an extra dimension of appeal for broadcast of the official global padel tour which is governed by the International Padel Federation (FIP) and backed by the Professional Padel Association (PPA) and Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).

CANAL+ have agreed a multi-year deal and Director of Sports Thomas Sénécal said: “CANAL+ has always been a great supporter of emerging sports. Offering Premier Padel to all our subscribers worldwide is a perfect example of this.

“We’ll provide complete coverage, enhanced by the knowledge of our experts. Launching our Premier Padel coverage with the Major in France at the prestigious setting of Roland-Garros? We couldn’t dream of anything better!

“Padel is becoming more and more popular, and we are very proud to be one of the leading broadcasters showcasing the sport globally in our territories and in France until 2026. CANAL+ is indeed the home of padel!”

Premier Padel is hosting at least ten new tournaments in 2022 – including four category one “Major” events with the first major being the Ooredoo Qatar Major 2022 which took place in Doha in March and the Italy Premier Padel Major concluding in historic Foro Italico last month.

The other category one tournaments are next week’s Greenweez Paris Premier Padel Major at Stade Roland-Garros starting on Monday and the Mexico Premier Padel Major at the Club Sonoma en Monterrey, México from 28th November to 4th December.

International Padel Federation President Luigi Carraro said:“We are delighted to add CANAL+ to our world-class portfolio of international broadcasters. The response to Premier Padel has been breath-taking and we look forward to padel fans at the venue and fans watching on from all over the world enjoying the upcoming Greenweez Paris Premier Padel Major at Stade Roland-Garros.

“One of the most historic venues in the world will welcome the fastest growing sport in the world. It’s one not to be missed.”

Meanwhile, the Madrid Premier Padel P1 will take place from August 1-6, becoming the inaugural category two tournament, followed very quickly by the Argentina Premier Padel P1 which takes place from August 8-14.

As The Padel Paper reported last week, the Madrid event is set to smash padel’s world attendance record at the 15,000-capacity WiZink Center.
