Plans are afoot for a four-court outdoor padel club at Deansgate Square in the heart of Manchester city centre.

Club de Padel – launched by friends Matt McKinlay, James Wigglesworth and David Blake – is set to open this autumn subject to a successful planning application.

The club on Owen Street is set to provide nearby residents and professionals with an ideal spot to socialise and network while enjoying social matches, coaching, tournaments and corporate events.

Co-founder Matt said: “Everyone who plays Padel loves it right away. The community aspect is something that’s very important to us at Club de Padel. We want everyone from school kids to young professionals to older residents to come along and give padel a go.”

David Blake added: “Ever since we first encountered padel in Barcelona several years ago, we have been desperate to bring this amazing sport to Manchester. It’s great fun, hugely sociable and easy to pick-up, so we know it’s going to be a smash at Deansgate Square.”

Once open, the club will fill a current gap in padel provision in the area, with The Padel Club in Wilmslow, Cheshire the nearest public facility. However, rumours persist of other new projects in the area including a large club at the Trafford Centre.

The Club de Padel project has been devised in partnership with developers Renaker who are regenerating the area and who have submitted the planning application for the courts.

The club is part of phase three of Renaker’s Great Jackson Street scheme which also includes four high-rise apartments. It’s hoped the padel club will provide an exciting use of free space which will increase footfall to the area and support local businesses.

Club de Padel will be open seven days a week and players will be able to book courts using the Playtomic app. Find out more at clubdepadel.co.uk
