The Padel Paper understands that the inaugural FIP Intercontinental Cup, which was set to take place in London on 25-27 July, has been postponed until next year.

The new competition, first announced in April, was due to pit Americas v Europe in a Ryder Cup-style format. But further details about the event have been scarce, with no venue or ticketing information available.

It’s understood that the FIP Intercontinental Cup’s intended location was to be Excel London, where the event was to take place concurrently with the London leg of ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

However, several sources told The Padel Paper that the event has been called off, with the apparent intention to set a new date in 2026. It was later confirmed in an official statement that the event will “almost certainly” return to London next year.

The FIP Intercontinental Cup was co-organised by FIP, Premier Padel and Hexagon Cup following a strategic partnership between the three institutions. It was set to mark the first ever visit of a Premier Padel tournament and the world’s elite players to the UK.

The event was due to be squeezed in between the Premier Padel P1 tournaments in Malaga (14-20 July) and Barcelona (27 July – 3 August). With such a packed schedule for the players, a decision was taken to stage the tournament in a more timely manner next year.

A FIP spokesperson said: “The FIP Intercontinental Cup has been moved back until 2026. Our commitment to delivering a high-quality tournament experience – with stronger participation between our partners and promoters – will ultimately benefit the competition and its long-term success.

“The additional time will ensure we deliver an unforgettable UK-based tournament – providing British padel fans with the opportunity to see the best professional players in action and an incredible experience which they deserve.”
