The world padel club market is estimated to triple in value by 2026, according to an industry report.

The Global Padel Report 2023, published by Playtomic and Deloitte, estimates the value of the global padel club market at €1.775 billion as of the start of 2023.

According to the report, the growth of the sport in new regions – such as the UK, Germany, USA, the Middle East and Australia – will see the club industry’s value rise to €4.015 billion in three years’ time.

The projected 22% year-on-year growth in club numbers worldwide would mean roughly 84,250 courts globally by 2026, almost doubling the current estimated 47,000.

As of 2022, the padel court booking market generated €1.25billion in a year, making it the most valuable segment of the global padel industry.

Unsurprisingly, industry projections throughout the report are overwhelmingly positive, noting the sustained surge in construction of courts and clubs, even after a return to normality following the pandemic (some countries, notably Sweden, saw a boom during lockdowns when local restrictions permitted outdoor play when many other pursuits were prohibited).

The report notes that although padel is growing at different rates in different territories, significant and rapid development is forecast in the likes of the UK, France, USA, the Middle East and Asia.

As of January 2023, the UK was reported to have 250 courts (it is nearer 400 now), putting it on a par with Germany but some way short of the likes of France (1,506), Netherlands (1,445), Belgium (1,395), Denmark (766) and Finland (750).

Qualitative research within the report shows that the majority of players surveyed started playing padel due to sheer fun and enjoyment. Exercise, socialising and competition were the other main motivating factors.

The diverse age ranges of participants also show the sport’s accessibility and inclusivity. Another notable conclusion is that many players engage in playing across multiple locations, indicating a “vibrant, interconnected community of padel enthusiasts who are ready for a match, no matter where it might be.”
