The UK is in the grip of a massive padel boom as rival court-building companies are locked in a highly competitive battle to create new venues across Great Britain.
Padel was invented by a Mexican in 1969 and the sport soon became hugely popular in South America and Spain.
Amazingly, padel also took hold in the cooler northern climes of Sweden before spreading across Europe.
With half a million players in Sweden, playing numbers in Italy have reached almost 300,000 and France seems poised to catch up soon.
Here in the UK, the race to build courts has been likened to the wild west by one entrepreneur.
British-based padel companies are vying with specialist court builders from Spain, Portugal and Sweden to increase their share of a growing market.
Padel has been adopted by the Lawn Tennis Association and many insiders are tipping the emerging sport to gain Olympic recognition under the tennis banner.
North America is also a major development region for padel companies with huge backing from venture capital funds who can see the enormous potential of the sport.
Professional padel tournaments are helping to raise the profile of the sport with mobile courts set up in some iconic locations.
In coming weeks THE PADEL PAPER will be talking to all the movers and shakers in the sport as we build the premier news and commercial platform in the sport.
