Padel London is kicking off a new series of competitions across the capital this weekend with a gold event at Stratford Padel Club.

For the first time, Padel London will be staging men’s and women’s competitions in a group stage followed by knockout format, with six competitions spread over the next six months.

This weekend’s opening event in Stratford sold out within a week. It will see men and women compete for prizes worth £250 for the winners and runners-up.

After Stratford, the series moves on to Epsom Lawn Tennis Club in late May, followed Bushey or Hampton (TBC) in June, Rocks Lane in July, Epsom in September then the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton in November.

Padel London founder David Segura-Pravia told The Padel Paper: “We are looking for all clubs in Greater London to join in so we can get players playing and meeting each other as much as possible.

“We decided to split the tournaments into timed matches with group and knockout stages in order to mix everybody up and make it more competitive and sociable.”

Responding to feedback from previous tournaments, Padel London decided to separate the competitions into men’s and women’s events. “Strong feedback from women was that they wanted a specific category for them,” David said.

Competitions in the series will be a mixture of gold (intermediate and lower advanced players) and siver (upper beginners to lower intermediate standard).

Sponsors of the series include wine and spirits brand Cut Classics, nottennis.com, iPadel, Kelme Padel and Name That Ball.

Full series dates:

1 April: Stratford Padel Club
27 May: Epsom LTC
24 June: Bushey or Hampton (TBC)
22 or 29 July: Rocks Lane
23 September: Epsom LTC
Early November: National Tennis Centre
