The growth of padel’s footprint across the UK continues apace with Padel United announcing a five-court floodlit centre in the north west – and more projects in the pipeline.

Port Sunlight Tennis Club on the Wirral – eight miles from Liverpool city centre and 14 miles from Chester – will be the site of five outdoor courts, with strong potential on the same site for a five-court indoor centre, which would make it one of the major padel centres in the country.

The potential indoor facility will boast a ceiling height of 10m+, a show court with extra space for top-level matches, a premium retail facility and café.

The courts are already on site for the construction of the five outdoors courts and they are expected to be open to the public in May.

The project will be Padel United’s sixth major UK padel centre, following hot on the heels of the announcement of its fifth at Waltham Abbey in Essex. It’s believed further projects are to be announced very shortly.

Padel United’s Head of Growth, Richard Hall-Smith, told The Padel Paper: “We are delighted to be bringing the first padel club to the Wirral.

“We are sure this will be followed by many more padel facilities in the north west which develop into a fantastic padel community in the future.”

He added: “We will form a close relationship with the existing tennis club members and the excellent Port Sunlight Tennis Committee. We really believe we will work fantastically alongside the tennis club and provide a premium rackets facility for the entire community.”

Just this week, the burgeoning UK padel industry saw the announcement of a two covered floodlit courts, to be known as The Heron Padel Club, at South Essex Golf Club in Brentwood. The Padel Paper also understand two courts are set to be confirmed at the West Worthing Club in West Sussex.
