A premium 10-court covered padel facility is set to open next year at the University of Surrey’s Surrey Sports Park, subject to planning permission.

The venue will be the biggest in the UK’s Higher Education sector and will be part of the impressive empire of fast-growing operators PadelStars.

PadelStars opened their first club in Reading just over a year ago and now have facilities in Bracknell, Southampton, Bournemouth, St Albans, Chigwell, Folkestone, Basildon and Egham, with more in the pipeline.

The Surrey Sports Park club will be the first of its kind in the Guildford area, and will feature a large clubhouse, cafe, bar, extensive social area and retail offering. It will be the largest padel centre in Surrey.

Existing Surrey Sports Park members will have access to the courts, while University of Surrey students and staff and local residents will also be able to play at the venue.

Georgina Agnies, Director of Sport at Surrey Sports Park, said: “Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, and we’re thrilled to bring this exciting game to Surrey Sports Park. With our state-of-the-art facilities, we will offer something special for everyone in the community.”

PadelStars’ rapid growth in the UK has been fast-tracked by investment from leisure specialist Dwellcourt Group.

Founded by Andy Knee and Jamie Brooke (with Jeevan Gill, also pictured above, as Director of Operations), PadelStars work with existing sports clubs and leisure facilities to introduce padel to their sites.

Co-founder Andy said: “The UK has really woken up to this fantastic sport. Padel is booming in participation, and anyone who steps onto a court for the first time will quickly find out why. It’s a sport for everyone, and we at PadelStars are all about creating a hugely happy, engaged playing community.

“Surrey Sports Park is a great partner for us: with a very large number of students on-site, many thousands of members, a broad multi-sport offer and a really progressive team of people driving SSP forward, we know that together we will create an incredibly vibrant home for padel in Guildford and beyond.”
