Manchester Metropolitan University student Fernando Carmona wants YOUR views for research into the state of padel in the UK.
Fernando’s final thesis aims to provide a thorough analysis of the padel ecosystem in the UK, encompassing market dynamics, business viability, demographic shifts and significant obstacles impeding progress.
Through this examination, the study aims to provide nuanced insights and strategic recommendations to inform better decison-making to navigate the evolution of the sport.
Fernando (pictured above) told us: “My thesis aims to detect the main problems of padel’s expansion here in the UK. Given that padel is the fastest growing sport in the world, I want to find out why other countries are going faster than us.
“I have made a small survey for players and I would love readers of The Padel Paper to help me collect more samples and deepen my research.”
The research also aims to:
- explore the role of governing bodies and investigate potential regulatory hurdles, administrative processes or institutional policies that may be impeding the sport’s growth. It will also analyse how regulatory frameworks compare to other countries where padel has thrived.
- evaluate market dynamics and demand-side factors influencing padel’s UK growth
- conduct a comprehensive analysis of player demographics, participation rates, and consumer preferences to understand the level of interest and uptake of the sport.
- investigate whether there are sufficient facilities, infrastructure and marketing initiatives to support padel’s growth and address potential gaps in supply and demand
- explore the level of investment and industry support in the UK, including the presence of constructors, investors and commercial stakeholders
- assess the availability of funding, sponsorship opportunities and business models within the padel ecosystem to determine whether there are sufficient resources and incentives to fuel growth
- identify potential barriers to investment and strategies for attracting capital and fostering partnerships to stimulate the development of padel in the UK
