Soul Padel has launched a nationwide initiative, Soul Timers, to support older adults in discovering (or rediscovering) the game of padel.
Created for players with more life experience and a passion for sport participation, Soul Timers offers an inclusive environment for those looking to stay active, social and competitive, whether they’re new to the sport or returning after time away.
The initiative blends beginner-friendly introductions with weekly socials, leagues and tournaments, all tailored to suit the pace and preferences of mature players.
Launching in early June at Soul Padel’s new four-court, canopied facility in Stockport, the programme forms part of the company’s broader strategy to position padel as a lifelong sport accessible to all ages and abilities.
“Padel isn’t just for the fast and furious,” said Mark Hewlett, CEO and Founder of Soul Padel. “It’s a sport you can grow with, and Soul Timers ensures no one is left behind simply because they’re no longer in their twenties. We’re building a space that champions connection as much as competition, where everyone can feel confident picking up a racket, at any stage of life.”

Around 38% of the UK population is aged 50 or over, but only an estimated 10–20% of the padel playing community falls within this age group. This disparity is compounded by broader physical activity trends: 42% of over-55s in the UK are physically inactive, compared to 29% of all adults.
By offering an engaging, age-inclusive approach, Soul Timers seeks to play its part in shifting these statistics, empowering older adults to embrace movement in a way that’s fun, social and sustainable.
With physical activity and social engagement widely recognised as key factors in healthy ageing, Soul Timers responds to a growing demand for sport formats that are inclusive, low-barrier and socially enriching. Each session is designed to support physical wellbeing while fostering meaningful connections on and off the court.
The Soul Timers format includes:
- Intro Sessions – welcoming new players with guided, supportive introductions
- Socials – regular, friendly matchplay focused on enjoyment and development
- Tournaments – fun, age-aware competitive events for seasoned players
- Leagues – structured weekly fixtures with peers of similar experience
“This isn’t about slowing down. It’s about playing smart, connecting with others and embracing the joy of movement at your own pace,” added Hewlett. “My own parents are still playing in their seventies; proof that padel really is a game for life.”
Regular Soul Timers sessions begin at Soul Padel Stockport from 7 June with plans to roll out the initiative to more Soul Padel locations later this year. Bookings are available via Playtomic.
