Entries are now open for the 2023 International Wheelchair Padel Championship in Paris – and organisers are looking for British players to take part.
The event in Paris Ile-de-France takes place from 30 August – 1 September and will feature 48 players. It is hoped at least eight countries will be represented.
The competition is being run by Missing Link Sport whose aim is to develop wheelchair padel for French and Spanish players around the world.
Last year’s inaugural competition featured 24 players from four countries but Missing Link Sport want to double those numbers this year.
The 2022 event featured Olympic wheelchair tennis champions, some of whom were playing padel for the first time.
Albane Rudd, President of Missing Link Sport, said: “We need the help of everyone if we want to make this version of the sport grow alongside padel.
“Last year during the final, the spectators (mostly padel players), got very emotionally involved in the match. Such was the level of the game that they forgot the wheelchairs were even there. It was amazing!”
French radio and TV presenter Cyril Hanouna is sponsoring and taking part in the tournament and padel pro Mélissa Martin will be playing in an exhibition match.
