The 2024 European Padel Championships will take place in Sardinia, Italy from July 22-28, the International Padel Federation (FIP) has confirmed.

Last year’s European Championships were originally scheduled for the beginning of October but were cancelled with just weeks to spare and with little information or reason given by the international governing body. Many competing nations – Great Britain included – had already selected teams and held training camps.

It was then reported in January that a 2024 edition of the Euros would be held on 15-21 April – but when the European Seniors Championships were announced for the same dates in La Nucia, Alicante, it threw the scheduling into doubt.

An official announcement today (28 February) by FIP finally ends the confusion by confirming the 22-28 July date but specifying a host city in Cagliari on the island of Sardinia. Now, finally, national teams and coaching staff can begin preparations in earnest.

This year’s event will be the 13th edition of the continental championships for men and women and will be held in collaboration between FIP and FITP (the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation). It will be the fourth time the Euros have taken place in Italy.

“The FIP European Padel Championships will represent the growth of padel at international level and the great work of national federations in the development of our sport,” said FIP president Luigi Carraro (pictured below).

“I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the growth of the padel around the world: professional, senior, junior, amateur players, officials, referees and managers.

“In Cagliari we have experienced great padel and public events and we are sure that Italy, a strategic country, will be a protagonist in the organisation of a European Championship, highlighting a competitive format that is particularly close to our hearts: national team competitions. I thank FITP, which has consolidated its central role and worked in recent years to achieve great sporting and public results.”

Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, added. “We are happy and proud that [FIP] has chosen Italy and Cagliari to host such a prestigious international event.

“In our country, no other sport has progressed as much as padel in recent years. A growth, moreover, which shows no sign of slowing down, also thanks to our commitment. Once again, we will deploy all our organizational skills with the FIP so that the next European Padel Championships prove to be a success.”

Meanwhile, the 2024 World Championships were confirmed recently as taking place from 28 October – 2 November. The location is not yet known, but the event date is squeezed in between the NewGiza P1 and the Dubai P1 on the Premier Padel calendar, which may offer clues as to the likely location.
