Aimee Gibson won her fifth LTA Grade One title of the year as she and partner Victoria Nicholas eased to victory last weekend at Rocks Lane Padel Club.

The event in Chiswick, west London, was the sixth of a series of seven events to take place across England, Scotland, and the Channel Islands as part of the British Tour, which encompasses the top padel competitions in the UK.

Gibson, who recently became only the second British woman – and sixth Brit overall – to turn professional, had previously won all four LTA Padel British Tour tournaments she’d entered in 2023.

She won titles in Harrogate, Derby, West of Scotland and Guernsey alongside Tia Norton and Catherine Rose, before missing the fifth event of the series at Stratford in June due to a two-week training block in Alicante.

Last weekend she teamed up with Victoria Nicholas and cantered to another victory, beating top seeds Claire Smith and Abigail Tordoff 6-1, 6-1 in the women’s final.

Victoria said: “It’s been a great tournament. Aimee and I are really happy to come through with the win at my home club. Last year I couldn’t play because of an ankle injury so it’s really good to come back and win.”

En route to the final, Aimee and Victoria beat Samantha Nicol and Eloise Tait, the former hockey player who has now transitioned into padel.

In the men’s event, top seeds Sam MacNeil and Rafael Vega Otaolaurruchi comfortably made it to the final without dropping a set, before going on to defeat the fourth seeds Cameron Dollimore and Theo Garton 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 to claim the title.

Chris Warren, founder of Rocks Lane Padel, said: “Well played and thank you to all players who travelled to Chiswick and gave spectators at home and away on live stream some great British padel action to enjoy!

“Rocks Lane was very well represented. We are super proud of local player Victoria Nicholas who competed at the Grade 1 for the first time at her home club and went on to win it.”
